design and in-depth understanding of education domain has introduced
automation offerings viz. e-IMS, On-line entrance, Education Process
Outsourcing.
Infrastructure
|
|
Wireless & Convergence
a.
Wireless:
Using wire less hand
held devices including wireless notebooks, students, faculty and
staff can tap into the academic and infrastructure resource base
WWAN:
The independent
networks of the different campuses of an institutes, located within
an aerial distance of 25 Kms, can be connected through an 11 Mbs
wireless bridge network. The facility enables an user, in any of the
campuses, seamless access to the integrated centralized computing
facility of the institute.
WLAN:
The internal network
of an institute/premise can be made wireless by a network of 56 Mbps
access points. Using Wireless LAN (WLAN) and wire less hand held
devices viz. wireless notebooks students, faculty and staff can tap
into the academic resource base.
b.
Convergence:
Convergence involves
the concept of integrating data, voice and video communication
through the same IP medium. The very technology reduces the need of
different infrastructure for facilities like data, voice
(telephony), video (video conferencing, circuit TV etc).
Data
It involves the use
of Hi-end servers with storage devices for programming and soft ware
application requirements of the institute. The choice of servers and
storage devices would depend upon the specific requirement (in terms
of traffic and type of application) of the institute.
Voice
The latest technology
(VoIP) involves the voice communication though the same network
though with data is transmitted. The convention PBX is replaced by
and Hi-end server.
Video
The use of IPTV
technology enables an user or a student to view streaming video /
video-on-demand or participate in a video conferencing through the
same network through with data and voice are transmitted.

On-line entrance examination
The on-line entrance
examination solution envisages to revolutionize the way entrances
and conducted by brining in the benefits of automation to this
sphere. This solution has successfully launched through KIIT
Entrance Examination 2005.
Solution Overview:
End-to-end automation of the examination
process including:
- Application
submission
- Application
Processing
- Admit Card:
Generation of Admit Cards, Centre Allotment, On-line Retrieval
- On-line
testing
- Automatic
Evaluation and Result Publication
- Counseling:
Call letters, on-line counseling information, seat allocation
- Fees
Collection
- Automatic
Migration to Student Database
- Robust
Security
Benefits:
Online entrance examination eliminates a host of resource (people,
time and money) hungry processes like application processing,
printing of answer scripts, logistics of sending answer scripts to
and from test centers, armies of support staff to take care of all
the processing, inordinately long cycle times etc.
Case Study:
KIIT has added another
feather in the cap by conducting an All India on-line entrance
examination (KIIT Entrance Examination – KIITEE 05). More than
14,000 students across 9 locations took KIITEE 05, which was spread
over 2 days. The backbone of KIITEE 05 was the online examination
software solution (developed by Kalingasoft an associate company)
which took care of end-to-end automation encompassing on-line
application, exam center allocation, admit card generation, testing,
result publication and counseling.
This helped significantly
reduce (as compared to traditional models) cost of conducting
examinations, crunching cycle times for the entire process and also
simplifying the logistical complexities of the process. KIITEE also
bought about greater transparency and information secrecy as the
involvement of various intermediaries for different activities like
printing and transportation of question papers was eliminated.
KIIT
is delighted by the response from the user community on KIITEE and
has started preparing for KIITEE 06. As Dr. P. K. Mishra, founder
and Pro-Chancellor of KIIT said, ‘the success of KIITEE 05
vindicates our strategy of technology driven differentiation and
process enhancement leveraging our technology partnership with
Kalingasoft. Based on our learning in KIITEE 05, we will come
back with significant enhancements, and further revolutionize the
process of conducting entrance examinations.

Education Process Outsourcing
Considering the increasing load on the university machinery and
the increased load on them to process university related information
with lower response time, greater accuracy and greater secrecy.
Kalingasoft has introduced the University Process Outsourcing
solution.
Solution:
Student enrollment to the
University
-
Data entry of student’s data into the university database
-
To ensure
correctness, completeness and integrity of data, we propose a dual
data entry system wherein the same data would be entered by two data
entry operators. A software program would check and report the
differences and the non-matching data would be corrected by
referring to the hard copy.
-
If University so desires, identity cards for each student enrolled
to the university can be printed with revised commercials. The
extra cost for the same is likely to be student
Registration
-
The students fill up their registration form on pre-printed OMR
sheets (Registration form) as per the format decided by University
-
The registration form is sent by the colleges to the university
-
The registration forms are scanned and the information is captured
in the university database.
-
Exception reports of students enrolled but have not registered can
be generated.
Generation of Admit Card
- Based on the details given in the examination form, the software
would print the admit cards as per the format of the university
- The university will dispatch the admit card to the colleges
Examination Marks Processing
Answer Sheets
- The answer sheets have an OMR sheet attached with three
sections as mentioned below:
Section-1: For Student’s Roll Number and bar code that corresponds
to the answer sheet number
Section-2: For the Bar code of the answer sheet number (to be kept
by the university
Section-3: For the examiner to write the marks secured and bar code
of the answer sheet number
-
The format of the OMR sheets is decided by the University
- Section-1 and Section-2 would be cut off and sent to the university
before handing over to the examiner for evaluation
Student to Answer Sheet matching
- Students roll number and bar code in
section-1 will be scanned and the match between the answer sheet
number and roll number will be established in the database.
Capture of marks secured into the database
- The examiner will fill up section-3 of the answer sheet
- The bar code of the answer sheet number and students marks in
section-3 will be scanned and the data will be captured in the
University database
Establish link between student and marks secured
-
The software will match the student roll number to the marks secured
using the answer sheet number
Grading of Marks
-
The software will automatically grade the as per the university
rules and prepare the grade sheets
Result Sheet/Tabulation Sheet printing
- The software will provide the facility for printing the tabulation
sheet after the grading is completed
Result Publication
-
The marks results will be declared over the web as on a date given
by the university
Grade Sheet Printing
- The software provides the facility to print the grade sheet of
individual students after completion of the above activities
Benefits:
- Lower Response time - Result publication in
7 days time
- Lower overheads – 75% reduction of
examination overheads for our current clients.
- Pin-pointed accountabilities of Kalingasoft
- Reduced uncertainties of result publication
- Elimination of errors
